About Kem

Hi, I'm Kem McIntosh Lee.

I started River & Root to offer the kind of therapy I believe in: unhurried, deeply personal, and rooted in real life.

I’m always glad to talk through my training and approach on our first call. Ask me anything.

There is a reason I called this practice River & Root. Good therapy moves you. It carries you forward through what feels stuck. And good therapy grounds you. It helps you stand in who you are while everything around you keeps changing. I built River & Root around both.

I work with adults and couples who are usually carrying more than they let on. The low-grade anxiety. The fight you keep having without ever landing it. The feeling that you should be handling this better. We slow all of that down together, and we take it seriously, at a pace that is actually yours.

I came to this work by way of a long mindfulness and yoga practice, and I bring those tools into the room alongside the clinical ones, so what we build is usable on an ordinary Tuesday and not just in session. My couples work is informed by decades of my own marriage, which means I understand in my bones that connection takes both work and care.

“I named it River & Root because good therapy has to do two things at once: carry you forward, and give you something solid to stand on.”
